Common symptoms of knee injuries besides knee pain

Common Knee Injury Symptoms, besides Knee Pain

Knee pain is the most common symptom of an injury to your knee joint. However, there are other symptoms of knee joint injuries as well that you may not know about. With the right physical therapy team, you can find out which other symptoms can result from knee injuries.

At Specialists in Sports and Orthopedic Rehabilitation (SSOR), we’re dedicated to helping people get the physical therapy they need for a wide range of injuries. This dedication is the reason our team brings two core values to every patient’s treatment. The first of these values is that we’ll help you find the most effective path to relief from your injury.

Our second value is that we’re determined to ensure transparency throughout your entire recovery process. This means that we want to make sure you know everything about the steps and treatments involved in your recovery, and we’re committed to answering any questions you have about your therapy.  By combining these two values in our treatments, we can not only help you treat conditions, such as knee pain, we may also help you learn more about your injuries and potentially relieve your pain faster.

Some common symptoms of knee injuries other than knee pain

One type of injury that the SSOR team sees frequently is injuries that result in knee pain. We know that the knee is one of the largest joints in your body. It’s actually second in size only to your hip joint. One reason that this joint is so big is that it’s very complex. Your knee joint is actually made up of bones, tendons, muscles, ligaments and cartilage.  Some common injuries of the knee include ligament tears, cartilage damage and bone fractures, and injuries any of these structures will cause you pain.

What you may not realize is that pain is not the only symptom of knee injuries. For instance, our physical therapists can tell you that one other common symptom you may experience is swelling. Swelling is when an injured body part gets bigger because of your body’s natural injury response system. One aspect of this system is that your body will rush fluid to an injured area of your body to promote healing. Small knee injuries may cause very little swelling. However, serious injuries to your knee can cause serious swelling.

We are also aware that swelling is not the only other knee injury symptom besides pain. Some other common symptoms we see with knee injuries include:

  • Stiffness
  • Joint instability
  • Popping noises
  • Inability to fully straighten knee

One thing that our team has learned is that the sooner you seek treatment after noticing any of these symptoms the better. Thankfully, we make it easy to begin your knee injury treatment at Specialists in Sports and Orthopedic Rehabilitation. In fact, we’ll actually get your treatment started with a free, 15-minute screening.
