Virtual physical therapy frequently asked questions (FAQ) guide

virtual physical therapy FAQ

The entire team at Specialists in Sports and Orthopedic Rehabilitation (SSOR) is deeply concerned about the COVID-19 pandemic and is taking every possible measure to ensure the safety and health of our patients and staff during this crisis. With the call for social distancing, we want to ensure that patients in need of physical therapy services due to injury or chronic pain receive the care they need.

Virtual physical therapy, or telemedicine, is technology that will help us provide continuity of care in these challenging times. We understand that you have a lot of questions about your treatment and the larger coronavirus situation, so we’ve created this virtual physical therapy FAQ to help answer them.

How is SSOR responding to the COVID-19 pandemic?

SSOR is closely following guidelines given by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in response to the coronavirus outbreak. We’re taking precautions in our procedures to ensure staff and patient safety.

Virtual physical therapy is a great way to provide care at this time since it helps reduce exposure to and spread of the coronavirus, particularly for older and immunocompromised patients.

Can I still schedule an in-person appointment?

As essential health care providers, our team is still scheduling in-person appointments for well patients. Our team has implemented precautionary steps to keep both our patients and our staff safe. Please contact our clinic for more information.

What if I need to cancel my appointment?

Please get in touch with us as soon as you can. Staying safe and following guidelines is the most important thing right now. We may be able to reschedule your appointment as a virtual physical therapy session.

What is virtual physical therapy?

Virtual physical therapy means connecting with your therapist by video conference. This allows you to communicate in real time as if you were right there in the clinic. While there are some differences to in-person treatment, many of the same therapies can still be accomplished.

Can I still have a virtual appointment with my regular therapist?

We understand that continuity of care is important, but due to special staffing requirements, we may need to schedule you with someone different than your regular therapist. Please rest assured that all of our licensed clinicians share the same dedication to exceptional patient care.

How much are virtual physical therapy sessions?

Virtual physical therapy care is covered by most major insurances in the same way as an in-person visit. Our team also accepts credit and debit as well as Flexible Spending Account (FSA) and Health Savings Account (HSA) payments for Medicare, Medicaid and self-pay patients.

What do I need to attend a virtual physical therapy session at SSOR?

We use a browser-based, secure platform to provide virtual physical therapy. Here’s all you need:

  • An online device with a camera and microphone
  • An internet connection
  • Comfortable clothes you can move around in
  • A well-lit and open space where you can perform physical therapy exercises
